I’ve mentioned a few times on the blog that I started out as a cyclist. While I consider myself primarily a runner these days, I still have a lot of love for the bike and riding with my buddies. I’m not such a hammerhead anymore as I mainly use the bike for leisurely weekend rides, cross training or a means to an end during a triathlon.
The bike
Last summer, I bought my dream bike – a Cervelo S2 (with SRAM Force). This is the best picture I have of it (on the back of my car on the way to my bachelor weekend just minutes after my local bike shop finished building it).
Some Background
When I decided to put this blog together, I bought myself a GoPro camera. My wife was worried that I would use it once or twice and then it would collect dust in our apartment, an expensive folly. Well, so far, I’ve been able to assuage her fears by using the camera a fair amount.
Below is the first video I shot and edited – a ride with three buddies to the town of Piermont, NY. I mounted the camera to the head tube and framed it so you can just see the front tire at the bottom and brake levers/shifters on either side.
A Little About the Ride
The route is one of the most popular from New York City – up Riverside Drive on the west side, over the George Washington Bridge and into New Jersey, through the Palisades Interstate Park, up Route 9W, past the entrance to Tallman Mountain State Park and into the quaint town of Piermont. P’mont is a veritable cycling Mecca in the Tri-State area. On a nice weekend, you will find more bikes than cars roaming the streets and patronizing the coffee shops or the bike shop.

The Video
(remember to be kind, it’s my first shoot and edit)
Nice video. On the running, watch out for knee and hip issues. I went to cycling from running at age 40 because my peers needed knee and hip surgeries.
Thanks for the heads up. I've been told that since I got into this at such a late age (ripe old 36), that my knees and hips are in great condition. We'll see how long that lasts 🙂
George! That is some seriously bad ass shiiite you got here. Love the filming and edit. Keep it up.
