Cycling Over the George Washington Bridge

in The Bike

I’ve been cycling in New York City for 25 years. And in that time, I have watched the city turn into a much more cycling friendly place.

But nothing beats riding over the George Washington Bridge to the Jersey side and making a hard left on Hudson Terrace to a road we colloquially call River Road. It’s actual name is Henry Hudson Drive and it’s a relic from the WPA era.

You can see see from the heat map of my cycling over the years, it’s probably the second most ride I’ve done. Central Park being the most, which should come as no surprise.

You can get the GPX file here if you want to do the ride yourself.

In the fall, it’s beyond spectacular. I made a quick video showing most of the seasons.

Pay close attention to the rocks and trees down in the part of the video from after a huge storm.
