Gear Review: Mizuno Wave Rider 19

in Gear Review

I was lucky enough to get a pair of Wave Rider 19 from Mizuno to check out.

As of this morning, I’ve worn them on four runs ranging from four to 17 miles (I’m training for the LA Marathon, remember) and I’m super happy with what I’ve experienced so far.

As usual with this brand, I found that the “break in” period was pretty short. I wore them to work for one day and from there a 10K run. I think I could have skipped wearing them to work as they felt pretty well fitted out of the box (I feel like some of the brands I wear I need to break in the footbed and the kicks aren’t ready for a run out of the box, not so with these).

As with the Wave 18s, these are light, coming in at 9.6 ounces (in size 9.5). As light as they are, they still feel sturdy and responsive and if all goes well, I expect to get at least 300 if not 350 miles out of them.

The heel to toe transition is smoother than the 18s, the lightweight cushion feels strong and the 12MM drop is perfect for my foot.

According to Mizuno, they’ve upgraded the sock liner to provide more rebound and resiliency during the foot strike, and to be honest (and I know it sounds pretentious), I think I can feel it.

If you’re in the market for a neutral shoe, you can’t go wrong with Mizuno Wave Rider 19.

  1. How many miles do you have these now and how are they holding up. I am currently in a Brooks Glycerin 13 but looking at a new new this next go round.
