I am behind on posts. I plan to write posts every day and get distracted by either the Tour de France or one of the two workouts I’ve been doing almost every other day for the past two months.
If you’ll indulge me . . .
I’ve trained harder for this triathlon than any other event I’ve ever participated in.
Here’s what I’ve done to prepare over the last three months:
- 15 times in the pool – total of 11.5 miles
I only got in the pool last month (not so easy to find a good pool in NYC without paying an arm and a leg for admission). In the past, I used to swim train using a combination of crawl and breast stroke. This year, I’ve only been doing crawl (and technically, the swim training I did for the 2012 race was participating in the 2011 race – meaning NONE). I’m still worried about the swim as I’m scared to death of open water swims (irrational as it may be). I’m lucky that I live near the course so I’ve been running up and down the swim course so I know where I’ll be at every point while I’m in the water. Thank goodness the NYC Tri swim is along a sea wall and not out to a buoy and back. - 37 times on the bike – total of 830 miles
I’ve finally got a bike that I am in LOVE with and am psyched to compete on. - 58 runs – total of 360 miles.
What can I say? I’m a runner 🙂 - Six Brick workouts
In past years, I’ve done one, maybe two, this year I did SIX! (A Brick workout is a cycling workout followed by a run with the only rest in between consisting of time to transition from bike shoes to sneakers. I’ve heard it’s named as such because your legs feel like bricks when you’re finished.)
I’m as ready as I’m going to be. I dropped about 10 pounds and have been able to maintain race weight for a month (I just got used to be hungry all the time).
I plan to taper by doing a short swim and run tomorrow (three days prior), a short bike ride Friday (two days prior) and one full rest day the day before.
As usual, I will have the GoPro with me. The plan is, at the very least to have it for the bike and run portions, I’m still trying to figure out the logistics of having it during the swim.
Wish me luck, the predicted weather as of today is a high of 80 with 20% humidity and since I’ve been training in up to 75% humidity, I think I’m in good shape. I anticipate my next post will be a photo essay of the race.
I’m nervous, I’m excited and I’m hungry, where’s the pasta?!?
Good luck to you!
You rock! Carolyn
Good Luck, wish I was racing along side you again this year but know your gonna kill it!!!!!
Good luck! Looks like you have prepared really well, which is the most important thing!
Congratulations. That is an amazing accomplishment. I know several people who have competed in races via running but very few to take the leap into a triathleethon. You should be very proud of yourself. Compression socks running
Thanks for the amazing post. I'm also a lover of triathlon triathlon shorts as I feel comfort to wear. I become motivated reading this type of post. I liked the post.
