I just got back from a 5K tempo run.
And man, did I need it. This weekend was hopefully an anomaly in my marathon training.
The ultimate plan was to run an additional 12 after the NYRR Bronx 10 Miler.
No go.
I’m not sure what happened.
It was either more humid than I anticipated or, I ran the race too fast, or one of a million other things that can go wrong with a run.
I ran the race a little slower than I did last year. I even intentionally held back.
When it was all said and done, I crapped out at a total of 16.5 for the day. When starting up after the race, motivation was lacking to say the least.
Look at the second run, it almost makes no sense. They are like they are activities from two different people.
In the past if I do extra miles and a race, I’ve done them before the race. This was the first time I’ve attempted to do extra miles after the race.
Lesson learned, I’m going to stick to a formula that I know works.
I needed a confidence boost and today’s 5K was exactly what the doctor ordered!
