Battery Life
The claim 12+ hours with buds fully charged with an additional 3.5 hours from the case and I’ve found just about the same when I tested them.
You can go from fully drained buds and case to the 13+ with the additional time in 2.5 hours. Which is really fast. And then pop them back in the case for 1.5 hours and your buds have another 13 hours of battery life.
Phone calls:
Strangely, phone calls only seemed to work in one ear, the right bud. That said, the caller was able to hear me really well in windy conditions, which always surprises me as there’s no mic near my mouth.
PaMu: Waterproof Wireless Earbuds – The Good
They’re super light and waterproof. Now, I wouldn’t suggest wearing them in the pool, but you can use them to run in the rain without any worries – even rain like we saw last week at the Boston Marathon!
You’re able to get in on the bottom floor right now. At the end of this week, the Inidiegogo campaign ends and then you’re only opportunity to get them is to wait until they’re available at retail (or online as I assume they’ll make available once manufacturing gets up and running).
PaMu: Waterproof Wireless Earbuds – The Bad
They claim noise cancellation, but they’re ear buds. I own the granddaddy of all noise cancelling headphones (the Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones) so the curve for comparison was steep. And well, these guys just don’t compare. But I know, it’s not fair to compare the two, but don’t claim noise cancellation if you can’t.
I also noticed that I would lose sound in one bud about once a day for a short time and then it would find it’s pairing again by itself. While not a deal breaker, I found this a little annoying and has probably already been fixed with a software update (I was testing a pre-production model).
Conclusion
I really like these ear buds and was surprised at the clarity of sound isolation. While the noise cancellation isn’t great, isolating the sound makes up for it.
I’ll definitely use these buds as a go to, but I think that they have an uphill battle when it comes to breaking into the consumer market. I feel like electronics like this relies a lot on brand recognition and start ups have their work cut out for them.
