Hot on the heels of the 2019 NYC Marathon, it’s time to start training for the 2020 NYC Half.
As of Sunday, it is 16 weeks until the race.
And I know, I know, you’re thinking, “But Eric, you just ran a marathon, why do you need 16 weeks to train for a half?”
And I would answer you that I don’t. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve followed a training plan for a 13.1 since I ran my first one back on January 27, 2008.
Since that time, I’ve run the distance 46 more times and had been such a steady runner that I would only need to ensure I ran at least a 10 miler the week before the race and I knew I would be set for the distance.
And then I had a family.
And then I got injured.
And then I had an issue getting to the finish line of a marathon for the first time.
And well, then my confidence got shot.
But, I bounced back and finished a marathon. And not to throw a “but” in there, but I just finished it, as in, that was my goal.
So I’m setting out with a more audacious goal for the 2020 NYC Half. But I’m keeping the details of that close to my vest for the time being.
However, I am ready to start training.
And in order to do that, I need to find a training plan. And as long as I’m looking for a training plan, I figured that I might as well Vlog my training for the race.
So here it is, the first in what I expect will be a 16-part series in getting prepared to run the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half.
Who am I to deprive you of my incessant complaining for the next 16 weeks?
